Module 6: Strong Mum
Strong Mum is a community of like minded new mums and mums to be, who want safe and expert training in the solidarity of a local community. Here at Milo and the Bull, we do not believe that having a baby should be an obstacle in enjoying the benefits of staying strong, fit and healthy. For most, the biggest obstacle is having to organise childcare. That is why, at Strong Mum, we welcome babies to join you in the studio while you workout.
We offer Strength and conditioning, and Reformer each week giving our mum’s the perfect blend of building strength and fitness while looking after your body, mind, and mobility.
To be able to coach Strong Mum classes, you must hold a recognised pre and postnatal qualification. These classes follow the same programming as Strength, however care must be taken to ensure all exercises cater towards new and expecting mums. For example:
Current NHS guidance recommends waiting until your 6-week postnatal check before restarting low-impact exercise. Core work especially should be approached vey gradually, as the abdominal region will have stretched and weakened considerably throughout pregnancy. Expecting mums shouldn’t be laid flat on their backs as this can interfere with oxygen supply to the baby.
Exercise pre and post birth can make a significant impact on someones sense of wellbeing. Whilst it’s important to consider exercises carefully and on an individual basis, healthy encouragement to train is encouraged. Exercise postpartum is especially important in rebuilding essential levels of strength throughout the body, preserving mobility and simply to feel good!
Regardless if you are qualified to take Strong Mum classes or not, as a Milo coach, you will need to be familiar with it’s role within the schedule and its pricing options as listed on our website. All babies are welcome up until walking age. In the case of Strong Mum Reformer, babies must be in a bassinet, pram or bouncer, as the reformer beds present an obvious injury risk to inquisitive hands.
Strong Mum credits cannot be used for any other classes and there is no membership available specifically for Strong Mum.
